surf + sun south of the border • sayulita, mexico
Monday, January 2, 2012 at 9:13PM Anyone who knows me, knows I love traveling to Mexico. Over the holiday, I visited the small beach town of Sayulita, 45 minutes north of Puerto Vallarta, for the first time and it's definitely one of my favorites. Now let's just hope Sayulita remains the same cool place—and doesn't become the next Playa del Carmen—for these reasons:
- Tourists v. Locals: For once, tourists don't outnumber the locals
- Food: Street taco stands, typical Mexican restaurants + more than enough expat-owned outdoor cafes with free WiFi
- Beach: Perfect waves to learn to surf (and if you're looking for more serious waves, head 10 minutes north to San Pancho)
- Quaint: The entire town is made up of a few, easy-to-navigate blocks with a lively zocalo (plaza)
- Art: A plethora of hippies selling homemade jewelry and funky shops like my favorite, Revolucion del Sueno, line the calles
