The lack of crowds and people is an added bonus. If possible, spend a weekend at a Sea Ranch vacation rental. This community originally idealized and built in the 1960s has one-of-a-kind architecture that blends into the natural landscape.

We stumbled across the "Musee Mecanique," filled with antique arcade games—from a boisterous, laughing, big-bosomed fortune teller lady to ancient, mechanical diorama-like "games" that all pertained to some type of torture or beheading device. Visit the Mechanical Museum of San Francisco's website to get a taste of the somewhat distasteful arcade oldies.

]]>http://www.jessicastoutphotoblog.com/blog/2009/12/10/saying-hi-to-the-high-line-meatpacking-district-nyc.htmljessica stout photo blog2009-12-10T05:00:00Z2009-12-10T05:00:00ZWho would have guessed 25 years ago that the Meatpacking District would be one of the most coveted addresses in the Big Apple—the meatpacking plants have been replaced with Diane von Furstenberg boutiques and the [until recently, dilapidated] elevated rail lines originally built in the 1930s have now been transformed into an eco-friendly, concrete pathway/park area called the High Line. Then there's the Andre Balazs-designed monolith,  The Standard hotel, jutting into the sky line with its voyeuristic see-through glass facade. Thankfully there's still some original Meatpacking District touches to the 'hood (the random, abandoned tricycle next to the half-empty beer bottle and the colorful artwork too calculated to be deemed graffiti) that makes a stroll through the streets a fun photographic adventure.
